Special challenges

Due to its very remote location, the LFI Marguerite Duras offers major advantages, but also serious challenges for its parents and therefore for its parents’ association:

🚍 How to organize school transport for over a thousand pupils at a reasonable price?

A School Transport division working like a company, run by… volunteers.

  • Prepare invitations to tender for transport service providers (known as “carriers”)
  • Negotiate with carrier (price, safety conditions, etc.)
  • Liaise with families on a daily basis (late children, late buses, problems during the journey, etc.).
  • Implementation and maintenance of an application to track children’s journeys!

We can’t stress this enough. Today, this almost full-time job is BE-N’É-VO-LE-MENT.

As a result, the question of continuing this activity within UPMD is regularly (re)posed. The next Annual General Meeting will be no exception.

THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN TO THE SCHOOL TRANSPORT TEAM.

🚜 How do you get parents involved in school life – so far away?

No fewer than 13 Boards, Committees and Commissions

There is no shortage of official bodies in which parents must participate through their representatives.

Class Councils, School Councils (kindergarten and primary), Secondary School Councils, School Councils, Middle School Discipline Councils, High School Discipline Councils, Health and Citizenship Education Committees (CESC), Canteen Commission, School Community Hygiene and Safety Commission, School Life Council (CVLC), Scholarship Commission, Solidarity Fund Commission, School Rhythms Commission, International Section Council.

The vast majority of families don’t live close to the school, so it’s obvious to make the trip, even if it’s just for a few meetings a year.

MANY THANKS TO PARENT VOLUNTEERS

👽 In Vietnam: What’s a “large check” notebook?

The famous Séyès “large-square” notebook is a must-have for schoolchildren in mainland France. It is not standard in Vietnam.

The UPMD produces and distributes it to students at the start of each school year and throughout the year.

COME AND SUPPORT THE TEAM SO THAT YOUR CHILDREN DON’T LACK THE MOST BASIC OF MATERIALS: A NOTEBOOK

🚲 At LFI Marguerite Duras, 25% of French families receive scholarships

Do you know how to apply for a French government grant? You can imagine the amount of help and support UPMD volunteers have to provide to ensure that children have the best possible conditions in which to study.
